History of the laboratory
The Laboratory of Medical Cybernetics was
established in 1969 at the Institute of Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences
of Uzbekistan and until 1980 was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences,
Professor Husan Kadyrovich Kadyrov. Then the laboratory was taken over by
Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Fotima Tuichievna Adilova and still
manages it. The laboratory has worked on solving computer diagnostic problems,
modeling and predicting the outcomes of diseases in various fields of medicine.
The laboratory has worked closely with specialized research centers and clinics
in Uzbekistan and other republics. The Laboratory of Medical and Biological
Informatics has been operating within the Institute of Mathematics since 2007.
Research directions
Medical and Biological Informatics -
studies the practical foundations of chemistry, biology and medical informatics
using mathematical modeling methods, methods of data mining and artificial
intelligence. and develops applications. These methods can provide solutions to
common problems: computer drug design, improving the predictive properties of
models and creating new molecules with the desired properties, computer
diagnostics and patient monitoring, decision-making in health care.
The main results
Research has been conducted on the basis
of many foreign grants. In particular, 5 NATO grants totaling $ 730,000, an EU
grant of € 15,000 and a grant from the SCOPES Science Foundation of Switzerland
worth $ 26,500 were implemented.
At the initiative of F.T. Adilova, a total
of about $ 800,000 was raised from international funds and spent on laboratory
equipment and research.
The laboratory has identified new patterns
of disease development and designed technologies for computer diagnostics and
optimization of the treatment in various fields of medicine, in cooperation
with the clinics of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan. These are
telemedicine systems in hospitals in Tashkent, Karshi, Nukus, two military
hospitals of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Tashkent,
Fergana), diagnostic and treatment programs for various diseases. The
effectiveness of the implementation is to improve the quality of medical care
to the population.
The laboratory has been conducted research
on the following topics "Mathematical modeling of the interaction of
molecules using computer methods of multiparametric analysis of data in a grid
environment", "Development of computer applications for the creation
of new drugs", "Virtual methods of molecular optimization in the
development of new drugs".
Since April 2020, in framework of the
research topic: “COVID-19 Severity Prediction in Patients based on Anomaly
Detection Approach” was developed a system for assessing the disease of patients
with COVID-19. This software is being implemented in on-line for the Republican
Scientific Center for Emergency Care.
Awards
In
2020, by Presidential decree, F.T. Adilova was awarded the Order of Labor
Glory.
International relations
The
laboratory actively cooperates with many institutes and universities,
including:
-
Moscow and Novosibirsk State Universities;
-
Federal University of Kazan (Volga region);
-
Universities of Stanford, North Carolina, North Dakota, Cincinnati (USA);
- Helmholtz Centrum Munich (Germany).
